100 Days of Awe: Day Five – A Whole Bunch Of Happy

Day Five – A Whole Bunch Of Happy

I am cold, I am tried.  It hasnt been such a productive day.  An evening event I attend served to trigger some big feelings of failure and worthlessness and to top it all someone nicked ‘my’ bike parking spot.   I am leached of any joy and a dark cloud rolls in creating a powerful compunction to ravish chips, hot dogs, pizza – anything to numb the emotions.  The power in the compunction is awesome but the awe I end the day on is sweeter, lighter and nourishing.

I gritted my teeth and suffered an hour or so of tantrum thoughts and the rumbling thundery cloud until I got home and  served up a banana berry crunch smoothie and turned on some Happy.  Four minutes later I am coo-ing like a baby, warmed, lifted and alright with the world.  Pharrell Williams is a genius and the local community of Dunmore East, just 10 miles from where I spent my teenage years, remind me of what I love about being Irish; our irreverence, spirit, sense of fun, the taking of life lightly and then of course there is the local coastal talent; sailors, coast guards, fishermen what is not to love.

100 Days of Awe is a playful project I set up to bring my attention to awe in my daily life. I see awe as wonder, a mixture of amazement and respect.  I expect the experience of awe to be about perception shifting awareness and that demands a reframing of some sort.  I am excited to see what will awe me on this journey.
