Camino Diary: Walking The Camino Francais Day One

DAY ONE: 9 October 2012 from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Orisson 8.8km
IMAG0654
8.8km on the road or should I say UP the road crawling over the last vestiges of the Pyrenees in 26 degree heat and carrying a 10kg back pack. It wasnt a good look and it didnt augur well for the next 900km but I was saved by Auberge Orisson. One of my most expensive nights on the camino but worth it for the rest, the view, the communal meal and the opportunity to rethink my walking strategy. Go home? Sweat it out? Take advantage of the magic of a luggage taxi?!  So it was that Day Two I regrouped minus 5kg of my pack and envigorated by the chilly fingers of the pre dawn mountain air.
